Penguin Press send me a book and asked if I would read it and write a review. I’m looking forward to digging into it and I’m supposed to have the review posted by February 15th. I don’t think that will be a problem. I’ll post the review on the front page of Pickstroke.
Just watch the video and follow the instructions. You can guess if you want to but I’m not going to give you any hints or say, “You’re getting warmer…” I’ll be sure to let everyone know who had the answers to the video questions when have the drawing. Good Luck! Thanks for visiting Pickstroke!
Just because I like doing it I think I’ll post a monthly calendar. Here is one for January if you want to download it and print it. I’ve also included a small poster that I think is kind of cool. I play around with images when I’m bored and not in the mood to learn something new on the guitar or work on the website. I’m watching Alien Resurrection so I guess that’s why I liked the “Dark” theme today! Guitar is a State of Mind.
I support talent and these guys have it. The song is great, the playing is great, the vocals are great. What else can I say? I bought the song for a buck and I think everyone else should too just to lend support to a group of musicians trying to make it. One of the reasons I wanted to re-launch Pickstroke is because I like posting guitar players that inspire me. I don’t have to hunt for them on my youtube channel. Sungha Jung is one of those inspirations. He plays gently, he doesn’t bang the box, so to speak. I don’t think that I’ll ever progress to his level but I learn little things that I can incorporate into my playing. I like the slight percussive tapping on the face of the guitar. I like the chord progressions. I’ve NEVER been able to get my thumb to work as independently as he does and I’ve given up trying. I CAN walk and chew gum at the same time and I CAN pat the top of my head and rub my stomach at the same time but I can NOT play 16th notes on the bass strings with my thumb while my fingers do the walking.
The Allman Brothers Band are honoring the 40th anniversary of the Eat a Peach album by hailing 2012 as “The Year of the Peach.” They’ll kick off the year when they receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award February 11 during Grammy Week in Los Angeles; the group will be mentioned on February 12 national TV broadcast. “It’s shaping up to be a great year,” says Butch Trucks, who co-founded the band in 1969 with Gregg Allman, drummer Jaimoe, guitarist Duane Allman, bassist Berry Oakley and guitarist Dickey Betts. “We just wanted to make music that was honest and play it for friends, which is pretty much what we’ve done. It’s an honor to be able to be recognized like this.” Up next, the band will launch their annual residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre, where they will perform 10 shows beginning March 9 (See full itinerary below). Tickets for those shows go on sale January 6. The Allman Brothers Band have performed more than 200 sold-out Beacon Shows since they began the March tradition in 1989.
